Mercedes-Benz has introduced a new special edition of the Mercedes-AMG GT coupe, this time dedicated to the upcoming Formula 1 film. The movie will premiere worldwide on June 25 and features Brad Pitt in one of the leading roles.
Hollywood has once again attempted to create a successful Formula 1–themed blockbuster. The new film from Warner Bros. Pictures and director Joseph Kosinski (known for high-profile action hits) carries the simple title “F1”. The story centers on a fictional Formula 1 team, APXGP, featuring a young, exceptionally promising driver played by 33-year-old actor Damson Idris. His mentor — a veteran driver — is portrayed by 61-year-old Brad Pitt.
In real motorsport, competing in Formula 1 past the age of 60 is pure fantasy, and even a 33-year-old rookie stretches credibility. But judging by the film’s trailers, Hollywood makeup artists have done their job well: both actors look fresh, energetic, and ready for on-track drama. As expected, tensions rise between the two characters, driving a compelling rivalry.
Some scenes were filmed during actual Formula 1 Grand Prix events. Seven-time world champion Lewis Hamilton, who raced for the Mercedes-AMG Petronas F1 Team until last year, served as one of the film’s producers. Mercedes-Benz is a key partner of the project, and the movie is filled with the brand’s vehicles and logos. The APXGP Edition of the Mercedes-AMG GT 63 is another way the company is capitalizing on its involvement. This special model will be limited to just 52 units, each featuring a numbered plaque in the cabin.
The Mercedes-AMG GT 63 APXGP Edition wears the colors of the fictional APXGP team — primarily black and gold. The model comes with an exceptionally rich equipment package, including a carbon-fiber aerodynamic kit, a powerful 1170-watt Burmester audio system, a front-axle lift system for speed bump clearance, and a custom protective car cover.
